Adopt-A-Family Programs
Children’s Cancer Network responds to the needs of Arizona families experiencing financial distress during the winter holidays or back to school season. Families in need are identified by the pediatric oncology health care teams and referred to Children’s Cancer Network. Providing clothing, age appropriate toys, supplies, gas and food cards, and essential household items, these Adopt-A-Family Programs set up families for success throughout the year. Beds may also be provided year round for those families in need.
Children’s Cancer Network is grateful for the many sponsors, donors, and volunteers that support the Adopt-A-Family Programs.
It is our hope to continue to meet the increasing needs of Arizona families each year so they feel the warmth of love and care while dealing with the uncertainties of childhood cancer. Please contact Children’s Cancer Network for more information about the Adopt-A-Family Programs.
Holiday Surprises
The Holiday Surprises Program provides practical and fun items to meet each family’s needs. Over the years, through the generosity of community donors, the program has grown to also include food baskets, toiletry gift baskets, children’s books, and beautifully decorated holiday trees. Armed with each family’s wish list and funded by Children’s Cancer Network or independent donors, volunteer shoppers work to make holiday wishes come true. The fun continues at the annual wrapping party where shoppers and volunteers gather for an afternoon of hot chocolate, wrapping, and camaraderie as all gifts are prepared to be delivered to the families. At the time of delivery, the greatest reward is the smiles on the children’s faces along with the tears of joy and hugs from the parents.
Back to School
Families caring for a child with cancer face a critical time when school begins in the fall. Purchasing backpacks, supplies, and uniforms may be overwhelming when also faced with the cost of medical treatment for cancer. Our Back to School Program addresses the needs of survivors and their siblings as they head off to school. Our shoppers work to find backpacks in the child’s favorite color or design, uniforms or school clothing, and supplies as requested by the schools. Families also receive gas and food cards. That special new backpack or new pair of shoes may give a child just the confidence they need to begin a successful new school year.
Bed Program
Through the Adopt-A-Family Programs, Children’s Cancer Network became aware of the reality of just how many children are without beds. This need was the catalyst for Children’s Cancer Network’s Bed Program which provides beds, linens, and pillows year round to children and families as referred by the pediatric oncology health care teams.
