Benji was diagnosed at the age of 2 months with Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) which is a disorder of the bone marrow. He is now 11 years old, takes medications daily, goes to clinic monthly, and also gets blood transfusion regularly. He is bilingual and loves school, hanging out with his friends, plays football, and loves spending time with his family. If Benji had a superhero power, he would like to be able to become invisible. He would like to meet Black SpiderMan who has been a favorite hero of his and have him sit next to him during treatments and hang out with him for the day. Best of all, his Mom is his superhero. “She takes care of me every day and she does so much for me.” Three words of wisdom from Benji are: DBA makes people smaller than others, try not to get too mad about diagnosis/treatment, and it would be cool to meet someone else with DBA.
